How Tank Water Heaters Work
A tank water heater is primarily composed of a storage tank and burner assembly. Electric tank water heaters use heating coils in place of burner assemblies. Water is stored and heated inside the storage tank at all times. Tank water heaters are always on, in order to ensure that a large amount of hot water is available at a moment’s notice. As water flows out of the tank on demand, new water flows into the tank through a dip tube. The dip tube dumps the cold, fresh water in the bottom of the tank, where it can be heated without mixing with the hot water being used.
When is a Tank Water Heater Right for You?
So, with so many other options available for water heaters, why would you want to use the same old water heater technology that’s been available for decades? Well, despite its age, tank water heater technology still offers a number of advantages. For one, it is very difficult to overwhelm a tank water heater with demand. Because of the large standing supply of hot water, it would take very high demand over a fairly long period of time to exhaust it. For another, there is virtually no delay between calling for hot water and receiving it when using a tank water heater. This is in contrast to certain other water heater varieties, which have an unavoidable delay between calling for hot water and hot water being available.
We Install and Service Tank Water Heaters throughout Southern California
You should never attempt to install a tank water heater on your own. Tank water heaters are often very large, and it could be dangerous to try to install one on your own. Even putting aside the size of the water heater, though, installing one involves interacting with the water line and power grid. For your own safety, and the efficiency of your water heater, it’s best to trust us to handle your installation for you.
We also offer a full range of tank water heater repair and maintenance services. It’s best to schedule preventive maintenance at least once a year, in order to make sure that your water heater remains in the best possible condition. If and when your water heater does develop a problem, call AG Heating & Air Conditioning right away and we’ll take care of it.
